SHOOT CANCELLED

Due to the snow storm we were unable to get our hands on equipment. Alex went to the video guy on Wednesday but he had left early.

We were gonna try and see if we could get some of the equipment today but decided against it.

We are trying to re-schedule for next Friday and Sunday.

Will let you know.

Band Reaction

Scott e-mailed me back and let me know what the rest of the band thought about the storyboards:

"The band seemed to like the first idea the most of the industrial areas with
the comic book/SinCity type of theme going to match with what we went with
for our CD.

A few questions:

1. When you put us into the shots, are you making us black/white/grey, or
making us appear to be like static? Is it possible to make it appear like we
are static?

2. It seems like everyone is okay with acting in the story, but we don't
really know what idea we would use for a story to go along with the band
playing. However, if there is a story, we all seem to be okay with being a
part of it.... just be sure to tell us if we suck at acting. haha."

So the good news is the band has chosen an aesthetic and is open to acting as well.

They want more clarity on what exactly the acting would be about and we need to do that on our second storyboards.

We talked about a "chase scene" so if we could be more specific about that, that would help them visualize it a lot better.

New Shoot Friday @ 7:30

Alex went to the test shoot but it was postponed due to lack of space in the rehearsal area.

They have re-scheduled for Friday night at 7:30.
Location: 1381 S Grant St. Denver, 80210

This is a great opportunity for our group to meet up and get some good test footage.

Hope everyone can make it.

Test Shoot

I had the previledge to meet the entire Glass Delirium band last night, they seem very excited about us helping them create a music video for them. Both lead singers are wanting to perform acting roles for the video.

We postponed the green screen shots for another day in order to accommodate the space that is needed in order to set up the green screen background.

Storyboard

The way I decided to go with this piece of music was Narrative, following what I thought the lyrics meant to me upon first hearing the song, which was about a love lost and the feelings that come after it. Since the music and emotions are very dark and sad, I decided to keep the tone very desaturated. As their target market is more a certain genre such as alternative, I thought the overall feel would apply well to them.

The idea of the story is the start of the music box conveys the memory of her relationship she just lost, causing extreme sadness she shatters she mirror she’s staring into thinking about her memories. The woman in the red dress strolling through the dark woods shows her sadness of being alone, the flowers wilting and color going away in her wake. Then we are shown the memory of their actual breakup to let people clearly know what is going on and why there is such sadness and dark tone in this music video. I wanted to only show them a little bit of the actual scenes of their relationship to give them an idea of what the story is about.

After this there is a section of only the guitar playing where the camera will be spinning around him in the forest where every other scene takes place. The end of the music leads the viewers on a chase scene through the forest between the woman and man as they try to get back over their differences and make up, but they keep missing each other. As the story ends we see the music box being closed to mark the end of the memory and the relationship.

Possible Storyboard Meeting on Monday or Wednesday

I've sent my first e-mail to Scott and waiting to hear back on if he can meet with us next Monday or Wednesday from 11:30-12:30 to go over the storyboards.

I will let you know what he says, just a heads up to keep those times open.

Monday 7:30 Test Shoot

Alex wanted me to let you guys know that on Monday (10/26) the band will be getting together for a test shoot at 7:30. Alex didn't mention a location.

But considering that the rest of the group will be in Practices of Design form 7:00-9:45 I let Alex know he might be doing this solo.

10/19 crit

Sorry I couldnt be there for critique today, I am really sick (about to head to the doctor to see whats up). Could someone fill me in on what we discussed today and if we have scheduled a meeting time with the band yet. I can't post my boards on here because Blogger doesnt upload pdf and when i convert each page to an image it keeps messing up the colors... so I will bring them with me on Wednesday (or make sure everyone gets them before then if Im not better and shouldnt come again). Thanks.

Scott's Schedule

Okay, cool. I am in class from 10-1115 then from 1-2:15 on MW, and 11:30-1:30 and 5:30-8 on Tuesdays. We usually practice Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30PM-9:30PM. Let me know what works for you, and we'll see when we can shoot the video and get together to make some plans.

stop motion films

So it sounds like Alex was saying we will not be able to get a lot of footage of the band so I was trying to think of things to fill the space with and I found these three videos that I thought were kind of interesting. Maybe they will spark some ideas for you guys.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHwWO3bqKDc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBjLW5_dGAM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CpmCbBquUI
I thought this last video would be pretty easy to do if we did something like this. We could just hang a bunch of sheets of paper or something up on the wall and then in photoshop or something go in and make it look like we drew all over them to make a stop motion video.

interesting ballroom

So I am not sure if this fits into what we were thinking of at all, but I stumbled across this webpage and thought it would make some pretty amazing shots. It looks like something that we might have to pay to rent though, so I don't know if we could use it anyways. If you guys like it I can call and ask them if it would be available to shoot in.
Here is the website I found it on:

Phone meeting with Scott (Band leader)

Scott mentioned he wasn't sure how the lighting will be lit for the 10/31 concert event. He believes it may be too dark, also, he said it was ok for us to get close to the stage in order for us to get close up shots of the band. Also, Scott did mention he has several stocked footage of the band playing from previous events.

In terms of being able to film any shots of the band prior to the concert, he said his drummer won't be back until after 10/20. Also, the band does rehearse on Mondays & Thursdays during the evening near a downtown location, however, not every member of the band has been showing up for practice lately due to other personal commitments. He mentioned it has been a tough semester for them as a group, not to mention he originally was told that we were building a 3d Animation video as oppose to a live action music video.

My proposal is for us to build a story around the music track and inter cut it with bits and pieces of shots of the band. We can try and show up to any one of the band's rehearsals and get some shots of them playing along with with getting some footage from the 10/31 concert. Also, Scott did mention he has several stocked footage of the band playing from previous events.

Let me know what you guys feel about this. I'm willing to remain attached to this project and try to work around some of these issues.

-Alex

Just scroll down to top tracks, and they have the song with free download

lyrics

BESIDE MYSELF

Beauty subsides as this path I follow turns to storm.
Flowers and roses and lovely colors fail.
Rain falls and pours down on my skin;
sunshine cannot peak in.

I feel so alive and cold inside (cold inside).
December's gone and my heart is torn away (away).
This thought that I have of you in my head (in my head);
it won't go away, it'll never go away.

Scared and helpless, lost and alone.
He gave up everything long ago.
He lifts his head to find the light,
it is gone.

I feel so alive and cold inside (cold inside).
December's gone and my heart is torn away (away).
This thought that I have of you in my head (in my head);
it won't go away, it'll never go away.

The path of a child, the path of my dreams
turns to stone, leaves me.
I am abandoned as the path is torn,
nothing but fear and broken sky.
Pick up the pieces, I run and I run.
I fall, the distance overtakes me.
I am seeking remedy.
(I'm beside myself,
once again I swear)

I feel so alive and cold inside (cold inside).
December's gone and my heart is torn away (away).
This thought that I have of you in my head (in my head);
it won't go away, it'll never go away.

The Song

Just heard back from Michelle... she wants us to use the same song. I was thinking we should go with "Beside Myself" since it has by far the most plays on their sites and has some variety in the rhythm and vocal focus. Any objections?

Next Week

alex said...

"I spoke with Scott, he said we are welcomed to choose a song that we would like to work on, also, we would like for us to present our ideas to the band. Time is quickly running out, for Monday, it's critical for us to bring our creative ideas along with which song we would like to use for the video.

To listen to their music, log on to blackboard, the web-site should be posted under michelle's class."

I posted the links to their pages where you can listen to the songs below this post also. Our preproduction is due for critique on Wednesday, we are each supposed to have our own unique ideas ready to present to the class and the band. I am going to email Michelle and see if she thinks it would be better for us to agree on a song together and all create boards for that one song, or pitch our own song and idea for Wednesday and then choose from there... What would you all prefer to do?
